Richard Chen

Managing Director

Richard has over 15 years of strategic financing advisory and transactional service experience with public, private, and state-owned companies in Canada, U.S. and China. Prior to co-founding Hawkbridge, Richard was a Senior Corporate Finance Manager with a private investment firm in Canada, and prior to that he worked as Associate to a Portfolio Manager at RBC Dominion Securities at 200 Bay Street, Toronto. Richard’s work experience includes growth equity, Mergers & Acquisitions, venture financing, strategic partnerships, real estate financing, PIPE (private investment into public equities), cross-culture and cross-border transactions, and pre-IPO financing.

Richard studied Mechanical Engineering at the Beijing University of Chemical Technology from 2000-2001, and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto, Rotman Business School (2005). Richard has passed the Canadian Securities Course (“CSC”), Exempt Market Product Exam (“EMP”), passed the Partner, Director, and Senior Officer Course(“PDS”), and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) Charter Holder since 2013.

Richard arrived in Toronto in 2002 with no plan to enter finance, rather, planning to become a top-notch mechanical engineer. However, University of Toronto Rotman School Commerce was the ONLY program still open and available by that particular time, so finance chose Richard and he started to study at University College, University of Toronto since May 2002. During university time, he co-founded and Chaired National University of Toronto Business Plan Competition (2004-2008, Four Terms), with the impressive and highly appreciated supports from four generations of incredibly hardworking volunteer teams, TSX Venture Exchange, Rotman school professors and Dean, and University level leaders, prominent Canadian entrepreneurs and CEOs of the largest Canadian financial institutions. Richard observed the power of community supports, experienced the strength of teamwork, and learned the importance of serving for a broader purpose. Richard was nominated as one of the candidates for CIBC Entrepreneurial of the Year in 2005 by two Rotman School professors who co-hosted the final venture fair at MaRS Centre.

Passionate in world history and aerospace science, value investments, physics, and industrial designs especially relating to rocket engine design and space missions. Also very active in lake fishing, skiing, basketball, golf, mountain hiking, movie theories, and international travels.

Jason Chen

Senior Associate

Jason participates in all aspects of Hawkbridge’s investment banking activities, with a primary focus on origination, market research, due diligence, and transaction execution. Prior to joining Hawkbridge Capital Partners in April 2018, Jason was a corporate banking associate at Bank SinoPac in Taiwan, where he was primarily involved in performing due diligence and developing financial structures on various syndication transactions in the industrial and real estate sectors. Jason moved to Toronto in 2016 and holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at University of Toronto.

In his free time, Jason is a basketball and golf enthusiast; loves to spend time with his wife; and cheer on Toronto Raptors!

Scott Wang

Associate

Scott joined Hawkbridge in January 2019 and primarily works on cross-border transactions and other investment banking activities. Scott is proficient with working with different business cultures and time zones when supporting clients’ need of buying targets or raising capital overseas. Scott worked with Bank of Montreal for three years after graduation, and worked as an equity analyst at the SIAS endowment fund before joining Hawkbridge.

Scott received a Bachelors of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University and a Master of Science in Finance degree from Simon Fraser University and completed all three levels of CFA exams.

Scott is highly interested in innovation and technology related topics. He enjoys investing time and efforts to support people who have the entrepreneurial hearts and who try to make a better world.

Catherine Ding

Senior Analyst

Catherine joined Hawkbridge Capital in 2017, and has provided team with reliable supports on equity research, financial package development, financial modelling, valuation and other aspects. With educational and work experience in both Canada and China, Cathy has comprehensive financial knowledge in the following industries: consumer products, technology, industrial technology, and cleantech. Catherine has received a Bachelor‘s degree in Commerce (Honours) from the University of Toronto and has passed the first two levels of CFA exams.

Before joining Hawkbridge, Catherine worked with an Author, and School Lecturer, as well as Research Assistant in education, media and finance industry.

Artin Aliu

Financial Analyst

Artin Aliu joined Hawkbridge in 2022 to support team on all types of transactions. Before Hawkbridge, he worked as a Steel Market Analyst at a commodity trading company. Prior to trading company, Artin worked as a Corporate Development Analyst at a food and beverage company. Artin graduated from UBC Sauder School of Business, receiving a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance, with minor in Economics. Artin holds an Intensive Studies Certificate from Stanford University and has passed CFA Level 1 successfully.

Passionate about space technology, philosophy, and economics, Artin spends his spare time reading journals and books to give birth and genesis to new ideas and thoughts. Also, he is very interested in international travel, skiing, and soccer.

Thomas Zhong

Senior Analyst

Thomas joined Hawkbridge in March 2021. He primarily responsible for growth equity and M&A related services, with a primary focus on conducting market research, building client presentations, managing communications with investors, and maintaining information databases.

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, with a specialist in Applied Statistics and major in Economics. Thomas has passed the Canadian Securities Course (“CSC”) and successfully passed CFA Level 1 exam.

In his free time, Thomas enjoys golfing, badminton, snowboarding, and international travels. The music in his playlist is usually 20 years older than him.

Jerry Huang

Research Analyst

Jerry joined Hawkbridge Capital in June, 2021. Jerry works as a research analyst, mainly responsible for market research, valuation analysis, collecting and synthesize data on various of potential target companies or industries for team to make operational or investment decisions. Also, Jerry is also responsible for maintaining key database, investment marketing works, and client meeting supports.

Prior to joining Hawkbridge Capital, Jerry worked as Analyst covering education and wholesale industries. Prior to that, Jerry worked in the tourism industry as an operator to provide service to international tourists who visit Canada.

Jerry received a Master of Science Degree from Ryerson University and has obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Waterloo. In the meantime, Jerry successfully passed CFA Level 1 Exam.

Jerry is a passionate reader and enjoys socializing with old and new friends. He also invests a good amount of time with fitness, swimming, and playing piano.
